Phelps' performance in the medley was as always breathtaking and effortless in that he wasn't even gasping in the end. I caught up with some of the Beach Volleyball prelims live.

When I saw the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony pictures, some of them had me wondering if they had digital backgrounds with watercolors, almost anything - but that particular watercolor effect was really a masse of humans - a friend commented "how a democracy can never put on a show like that".

Having grown up in India, such news, which AFAIK is always the male politician in India anyway, really has no impact on decisions or careers. I suspect that wouldn't the case for a female politician. Is Monogamy over-rated? Would make a good topic for Olivia Judson to explore. Also we have a flavor of the chicken and egg problem here with popularity and adding skeletons that refuse to stay in the closet. I bet Obama's taking notes.

I was surprised at myself at how many news site visits later it registered in me that there's a war in progress. So conditioned to video games, 21st century men in fatigues and nets didn't register - but the still of an injured woman with blood on her face helped register.

This week ended on a surprising note of loss for me, for no fault of mine. How we arrive at decisions as a pack is an area of interest for me. Thank God, I am big on contingency plans and always ahead.

meetups with Old pals, Solzhenitsyn, Mcmansions, uncertainties

Meeting up with Old Pals is almost like visiting back home. You reminisce and wonder which is the altered reality. Xanh is not the best choice for a table full of vegetarians - the starters were good. Claypot tofu too. The ambience is the winner. And great cocktails.

Solzhenitsyn passes on - first hand accounts in a gulag. And I wonder why history repeats. Why public memory is short.

A friend buys a McMansion, more like an authentic 1950s home with ample room for a brady bunch. The family room has an eichler openness. I really want to come up with a short, set in the 1950s now - free location for the shoot.
